The orchestra has served the community through the years by providing entertainment, a creative outlet for serious musicians, education to young and old, and sustainment of the arts in our region. JCSO has been responsible for bringing in hundreds of guest artists known nationally and internationally, exposing the community to diverse cultures and music of varying genres. Our goal is to bring you the best musicians and most magnificent music to every concert! 

Ticket sales cover less than half the cost of producing concerts. Donating supports our symphony and community outreach programs. Our community outreach programs include:

  • Partnering with Toys for Tots toy drive

  • Partnering with Second Harvest Food Bank as part of the League of American Orchestra’s Orchestras Feeding America

  • Taking music education into the public schools with the Instrumental Petting Zoo

  • Free annual outdoors pops concert

  • Music education lectures by our Music Director

  • Supporting Milligan College’s Chapter of the National Association for Music Education

  • Partnering with Milligan College, sharing instruments, equipment, musicians, etc.

  • Encouraging development of ETSU Lamar Scholarship students by providing them a state with JCSO to jumpstart their musical careers

  • Free tickets to veterans for our November concert

  • Free admission to concerts to students studying music to encourage the next generation of musicians

  • Provide free bus service to concerts for seniors

  • Provide gift certificates to various nonprofit organizations for their fundraising activities such as silent auctions, door prizes, etc.

  • Partnering with Science Hill High School providing their students with volunteer opportunities

  • Providing a stage for local talent

  • School supply drive in conjunction with WJHL and Good Samaritan Ministries

  • Partnering with Coalition for Kids by providing an after-school music program for at-risk children

  • Free youth education concerts for grades K-12
