Spotlight: ETSU Opera Theatre, a hidden gem in the heart of Appalachia.

East Tennessee State University (ETSU) Opera Theatre, directed by Karen Smith, is a thriving program nestled in the heart of Appalachia. This dynamic program offers students a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the world of opera, from performance to production.

ETSU Opera Theatre has a strong tradition of producing high-quality opera productions. Students work closely with experienced faculty and guest artists to bring to life a diverse range of operatic works, from classic masterpieces to contemporary compositions.

The program offers a comprehensive curriculum that covers voice training, acting, stagecraft, and music theory. Students also have the opportunity to participate in opera workshops, masterclasses, and recitals. This well-rounded education prepares students for careers in opera, musical theater, and other performing arts fields.

ETSU Opera Theatre is an integral part of the ETSU community. Students have the chance to collaborate with other departments, such as music, theater, and dance, to create innovative and interdisciplinary performances. The program also fosters a strong sense of community among its students, faculty, and staff.

The JCSO is excited to welcome the ETSU Opera Theatre as one of two guest artists at our November concert on Saturday, November 16 at the ETSU Martin Center. Tickets are available now at jcsymphony.com
